I am looking, opening my eyes to what the possibilities are for me and my art. As a young emerging artist in New Zealand, my aim has been to develop my work as a painter and exhibit as much as I am able. I have always been driven to show my work, to as many people as the situation will allow, to share with others how I see the world, in my mind’s eye.
Over the last two years my aim has been to extend my repertoire and test out new approaches to evolve my work. The result of this was the completion of several big art projects. The most relevant being the successful completion of 2 solo exhibitions. Both of these exhibitions were held in New Zealand, my home. In my most recent body of works, Bees in Trees, I painted 22 square paintings. Painting bees in trees, not in boxes, I wanted to remind people that bees do live in trees, not just boxes. These works were exhibited in Artspost, Hamilton. With one of these pieces debuting at the, 2014 Hamilton Garden Arts Festival as an installation. I like the details, the bits in life that we often forget to look at and sometimes the titles to my paintings tell you what it is I am thinking. I guess, I see things differently to others and at times, this different vision can be seen by others, as clarity. Ever since I began to paint, I have received a lot of recognition for the work I have done. One of the most significant for me was becoming a finalist in the prestigious Wallace Art Awards, only 7 months after I started to paint. Whether it be in the form of commission, award or painting for the sake of painting, my work continues to be focused on different aspects of the environment, all of which are related to us as the people who walk the earth.
